The IJsselhoeve sits in a lovely spot: by the IJssel, between the meadows, and yet within cycling distance of the city. Guests come to us for the Hanseatic towns, for cycling and walking, and for the surprisingly varied landscape.

Sand sculpture at Zandverhalen in Elburg

Zwolle and the Hanseatic towns

By bike you’re in the heart of Zwolle in about twenty minutes, with its historic centre, Museum de Fundatie, Pathé cinema, art house cinema Fraterhuis and plenty of terraces. Hattem, Kampen and Elburg are nearby too, all old Hanseatic towns each with their own character. Hattem has a charming centre with the Bakery Museum and the Anton Pieck Museum. In Elburg you can admire the old fortified town and visit Zandverhalen, one of the largest indoor sand sculpture exhibitions in the world.

The IJsselhoeve and surroundings from the air

Cycling and walking

The campsite is a fine base for cyclists and walkers. From the dike you can head straight onto some of the loveliest routes: along the IJssel, through the villages and the forests of the Veluwe. Just over the dike runs the Zalk Boots Path, and at Zalk a small ferry takes you to the other side.

Wide landscape around the IJsselhoeve

A varied landscape

What makes the area special is the variety. The municipality of Hattem is unique: in one place you find forest, heathland, river landscape, meadows and a historic Hanseatic town, all close together. Quiet and green, with a different view at every turn.

Eating out

Nearby you’ll eat well at, among others, Restaurant de Oase in Zalk, Restaurant de Voorburcht and Herberg Molecaten in Hattem. Fancy a treat in between? Grab an ice cream at IJscowd.

Cooling off in warm weather

When it’s hot, the Heerderstrand and the Wijthmenerplas are lovely places to cool down. And close by, in Zalk, there’s a river beach by the IJssel, right next to the ferry to ‘s-Heerenbroek.

Calm and space, and yet close to art, culture and fun.
