Boerderij de IJsselhoeve is a small farm campsite by the IJssel, between Zalk and Hattem. Right in the middle of nature, and yet within cycling distance of the city.

Who we are

The campsite is run by Eljee and Christine. We’ve lived here with our family since 2008 and welcome our guests with real pleasure. Since 2022 Ewout and Annelies, our brother-in-law and sister-in-law, also live with their family in the front of the house. They support us in daily life and have become a familiar face for many of our guests. Around us is a steady circle of housemates, lodgers and friends who think along and help carry the work. Small-scale, with attention for everyone who comes here.

The farm with the vegetable garden

A bit of history

The farm has long family ties. Christine and Annelies’s mother grew up in Zalk. Her parents, Christine and Annelies’s grandparents, lived here and were engaged and married on the threshing floor, the very spot that’s now our home. In 2008 we took over the farm from uncle Harm and aunt Gerrie. They were known for their hospitality, something that has been passed down here from generation to generation.

More than a campsite

The IJsselhoeve has a rhythm of its own. The yard, the farm and the barn are something we get to share. That is why this is also a meeting place, with particular attention for young adults, and open to anyone who drops by. In the converted sheep barn we host open meals throughout the year, music and reflection evenings, a coffee morning, exhibitions and open mic evenings. On the yard you’ll see people who live here, who work here or who come to find some calm. As a camping guest you’re welcome to join, to look on or to choose your own quiet.

What drives us is a few simple values: hospitality without strings, real attention, generosity, and care for one another and for this place. We see this farm as something we have received, and that we therefore want to pass on. Calm, beauty and real encounter are more precious than we often think, especially in our time. A small oasis by the IJssel, where everyone is welcome.
